Double Blessings Frequently Asked Questions
EZ-2-Nurse Twins Foam Pillow FAQ’s
What is the “EZ-2-Nurse Twins” Foam Pillow made of?
Back by popular demand! Our original EZ-2-Nurse Twins Nursing Pillow made of durable, precision-cut foam. It comes with a machine washable, zippered cover. The foam insert is thick, firm and supports up to 70 pounds.
What makes the “EZ-2-Nurse Twins” Pillow so much better than other pillows?
When we first designed this pillow, we wanted to emulate the position of how a mother brings a baby to breast in the bend of her arm. Notice how the baby is clearly coming to her at an angle. So our angled top surface allows you to bring your babies to the pillow, and position them on their sides, so they are facing you to nurse. A baby should never be placed on a flat surface to nurse, because then he’ll have to turn his head sideways to meet the breast. Not only is that position uncomfortable, but it also impedes the natural swallow reflex and digestion. My pediatrician always advised me, “Position your babies tummy-to-tummy. Their tummy to your tummy.” It’s simply more natural, more comfortable, and more productive (for all three of you).
Will I really be able to nurse my twins "hands free"?
Absolutely. You’ll notice that other nursing pillows show mother cradle-holding her baby on top of a pillow, using the pillow for her arm support. That may work well when nursing just one baby, but as a mother of multiples, you’ll need to have both arms free. Foremost, for bringing babies to the pillow surface one at a time, and then when the nursing session is finished, removing them from the pillow one at a time. Also, both hands and all ten fingers are now free to assist with latch-on and latch-off (place your forefinger between his gums to release his latch); chin-drop (if baby’s bite is too small on your nipple, use your thumb and forefinger to drop his chin, which opens his mouth wider for a bigger latch); cheek-strokes (stimulate a sleepy baby by rubbing his cheek with the side of your forefinger); caressing (their silky little heads); burping one baby while the other one continues to nurse; or, tending to a third or fourth child (you really ARE an amazing woman!). This pillow is designed for you to be able to nurse your twins throughout the day and night without assistance.
Can I use this pillow for bottle-feeding, as well?
Yes. If you "flip" the pillow over, you’ll notice that the bottom surface of the pillow is flat. This is more compatible for bottle-feeding. And, remember, anyone can wear the pillow…Dad, grandma, nanny, or babysitter. Anyone can strap the pillow on (just like you do during the day for nursing), sit down and bring the babies to the pillow for completely comfortable bottle-feeding sessions
How does the pillow stay around me?
The pillow secures behind mother with an adjustable strap and a side-squeeze buckle (it’s much like putting on a fanny-pack). Just cinch the strap securely. The pillow stays in place and won’t scoot away from you. The strap is designed to fit up to a 54" waist.
How do I use my “EZ-2-Nurse Twins” Pillow?
The best place to nurse is on a sofa, loveseat, on top of your bed, or sitting straight-legged on the floor (as long as you have a wall or sofa to scoot up against for back support). (NOTE: Rockers or recliners don’t work well because there isn’t enough width between the arms of the chair for the pillow to fit properly. More importantly, there’s no place to safely lay the babies on the sides of the chair, prior to bringing them to the pillow. You need a place with a flat working surface on either side of you so you can safely place the babies prior to bringing them to the pillow.) Before you sit down, place the babies within arm’s reach of where you will be sitting, with one baby on the right, and one on the left, of where you will be sitting. With the angled side up, strap the U-shaped nursing pillow around you. (HELPFUL HINT: It’s easier to put the pillow on “backwards” with the buckle in front of you. Note the “click” as you connect the side-squeeze buckle, cinch the belt so the pillow is snug around you, then “spin” the pillow around, so the nursing surface is now in front of you and the buckle is behind you.) Now, sit down between the babies, and place the back pillow (rounded end facing up) behind your lower back, so you can comfortably lean forward into the pillow. Bring one baby to the top of one side of the pillow, roll baby towards you and assist with latch-on. Slowly reach for the second baby, and repeat. Finally, take a big breath, exhale, relax and begin nursing. Remember, it’s healthier for babies to nurse while on their sides, rather than flat on their backs with their heads turned to the side, so position your babies “tummy-to-tummy”….their tummy to your tummy, so they are facing you to nurse. Finally, although you’ll be using the “football hold” position (one baby along each side of you), your arms and hands will not be underneath the babies, cradle-holding them. They should be above the babies, free to assist with positioning, stimulating and caressing.
Can I use my "EZ-2-Nurse Twins" in a rocker?
No. Our pillow is 24" wide ~ wide enough to accommodate two babies simultaneously. Most rockers are 19" wide. But, even if it would fit, a rocker isn't the best place to nurse with our pillow, because mom really needs a place where she has a flat working surface on each side of her. For instance, a sofa, loveseat, top of her bed, or even sitting straight-legged on the floor (as long as she has something she can lean back against, like a wall or the front of a sofa, for her back support). So, say she decides to nurse on a sofa ~ she'll place one baby on the right cushion, feet facing towards the back cushions, and then the other baby on the left cushion. Then, mom straps her nursing pillow onto her, puts the back pillow against where she will be sitting (in between the two babies already on the sofa), and sits down between them. Then she brings one baby to the pillow, and then the other baby. Now, she has both hands free, to assist each baby with latching on and nursing. When she's done, she can burp them on the pillow (roll them over, or bring them up to her shoulder, one at a time), or she can first remove them from the pillow - in the same manner that she brought them to the pillow, but in reverse - one at a time onto the flat cushion of the sofa to her right and to her left. Then she stands up, unstraps the pillow, and then tends to her babies. Now, if she were in a rocker, where would she be placing the babies before and after nursing? That's why a rocker isn't the best choice, and why it's important to pick a place that has a flat working surface on both sides of her.
How do I burp the babies while using my “EZ-2-Nurse Twins” Pillow?
When one baby is finished nursing, simply roll him over onto his tummy – right on top of the nursing pillow – and with a burp cloth underneath his head – and rub his back until you get a burp. Please pay special attention while burping your baby, in the event of a spit-up burp, to prevent choking. When finished, safely remove him from the pillow to where he started. Now, burp the ‘second’ baby on the surface of the pillow the same way, but to balance out the pillow, bring him to the center (in front of you) and rub his back, or bring him up to your shoulder for a burp. Or, remove them both safely from the pillow, remove the pillow from around you, and then burp them on your shoulder individually.
How do I clean my “EZ-2-Nurse Twins” Pillow?
When new, your EZ-2-Nurse Twins Foam Pillow material may have a slight smell. It is completely harmless and will disappear once the product has aired out. Because of the number of people that have handled your pillow during its manufacture, for health reasons, we highly recommend that you wash your cover before using for the first time. Simply unzip the cover, remove from pillow, and zip closed. Machine wash in cold water with mild soap, and like colors. Line dry or machine dry, cool heat. Do not use bleach or harsh detergents. Should the foam insert need cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth and mild soap to spot clean the exterior. Do not soak this product. Avoid using excess water when cleaning the foam. The foam insert is NOT machine washable.
What are the dimensions of the "EZ-2-Nurse Twins" Pillow?
